About the Bulding
Villa San Giulio is an historic neoclassic building, built in 1700 over the ruins of the ancient Castrum Lunellorum owned by the Lunello family from the earliest years XI century. The Hotel is immersed in a large enclosed park with the St. John the Baptist chapel (built in XIX century over another ancient chapel) inside the property land.
The mansion has been abandoned for decades until the recent restoration which has brought to a new life in 1999.
The hotel Villa San Giulio, is strategically located in the Langa area, close to the Fondovalle road, a few minutes drive from historic and gastronomic places such as Barolo, La Morra, Cherasco, Alba, Bra and Dogliani. It’s easily reachable from the A6 highway and it has a 18 holes golf club nearby and different naturalistic routes among the vineyards.

History of the Building - The Castrum Lunellorum
As the name suggest, Costagaresca place is an ancient place, in fact this kind of name was forged in the 919 year, when some Barbarian people, in theirs to run about for these places, left, with tremendous testimonies of their passage, also the mark which they belonged: therefore the Sermatis, the Germaniums and the Ungarian after which the palce anciently called Costa (that means Coast) - existing on the Tanaro river to the right of the river between Novello and S. Maria of Narzole - as a result of the occupation from part of Ungarian predators, taken the name of Costangaresca. Therefore is confirmed, in those times, the existence of the Castle of the Coast, that is Costangaresca; we know that a known Aginulfo Lunello, after the defeated of the Ungarian people, toke that castle called castrum Lunellorum, like we can read in the first official city cadastre of the XIV century.
The Lunelli, one of the more important family in Cherasco at that time, also inhabiting one of the beautiful palaces in Cherasco, they still attended the hereditary zone for enjoing with the hunting, as we know from a testimony of 13 December 1570.
Subsequently the Castrum was demolished and rebuilted in `the XVII century like "mansion of the delights”: it passed therefore in property of other Cherasco’s families like the Furno and the Buratti of Scagnello, until Maurizio Buratti of Scagnello sold it to Sineo in the half of XIX century.
The ancient belongings to the Furno family still remain marked on the top of the villa in their coat of arms, constituted from three stars over one salamandra between flames with the "ardeo et non ardeo” motto.

Villa San Giulio, è una dimora storica in tipico stile neoclassico, costruita nel 1700 sui resti dell’antico Castrum Lunellorum appartenuto alla famiglia Lunello nei primi anni dell’XI secolo. Essa è immersa in un parco recintato nel quale è presente la cappella di S. Giovanni Battista del XIX secolo costruita sui resti di una più antica risalente al XV secolo . Dopo un inizio glorioso, la villa è stata abbandonata per decenni fino all’attuale restauro che l’ha portata ai fasti di un tempo.
L’hotel Villa San Giulio, è strategicamente ubicato ai piedi della Langa, sulla strada fondovalle, a pochi minuti di macchina da luoghi importanti da un punto di vista storico ed enogastronomico, come Barolo, La Morra, Cherasco, Alba, Bra e Dogliani. Comodamente raggiungibile dalla autostrada A6 TO - SV, Villa San Giulio ha nelle sue vicinanze un golf club da 18 buche e vari percorsi naturalistici tra i vigneti.

Ideale per la clientela di lavoro o per brevi soggiorni di relax, l’hotel dispone di 16 camere, di cui una attrezzata per disabili, tutte dotate di televisione LCD satellitare, telefono, asciugacapelli, scrivania e ampi armadi. Ogni camera ha una sua particolarità, come ad esempio i soffitti affrescati e sono tutte di ampia metratura. Le singole occupano una superficie di circa 18 mq, bagno escluso e sono dotate di letto alla francese. Le doppie o matrimoniali arrivano a 26 mq, bagno escluso. Cenni Storici - Il Castrum Lunellorum
La località di Costangaresca reca, già nel suo nome, la conferma di un’eccezionale antichità, dovendo far risalire il toponimo intorno all’anno 919, quando alcuni popoli barbari, nel loro scorazzare per questi luoghi, lasciarono, insieme a tremende testimonianze del loro passaggio, anche il sigillo delle stirpi a cui appartenevano: così i Sermati, i Germani e, per l’appunto, gli Ungari a seguito dei quali il sito anticamente denominato Costa- esistente sulla riva del Tanaro alla destra del fiume tra Novello e S. Maria di Narzole- a seguito dell’ occupazione da parte di predatori Ungari, prese il nome di Costangaresca.
Confermata, dunque, già in quei tempi, l’esistenza del Castello della Costa, ossia Costangaresca, sappiamo che un certo Aginulfo Lunello, dopo aver sconfitto gli Ungari, si impossessò di quel castello chiamato quindi castrum Lunellorum, come si legge nel primo catasto cittadino risalente al XIV secolo.
Furono sempre i Lunelli fra le più insigni famiglie cheraschesi e, da una testimonianza del 13 dicembre 1570, sappiamo che, pur abitando uno dei più bei palazzi di Cherasco, essi ancora frequentavano la zona avita per dedicarvisi alla caccia.
Successivamente il Castrum venne abbattuto e ricostruito nel ‘700 come "villa delle delizie”: passò così in proprietà di altre famiglie cheraschesi come i Furno e i Buratti di Scagnello, finché, alla metà del sec. XIX, il conte Maurizio Buratti di Scagnello lo vendette all’on . Sineo.
